SUMMER 2010Cala Mia: Isla Boca Brava, Panama

What do Howler Monkeys, Cheesemaking and Humpback whales have in common?

The eco-island resort - Boutique Hotel Cala Mia on Isla Boca Brava, Pacific coast, Panama.

Nestled on the tip of Isla Boca Brava, a pristine island off the pacific coast of Panama, is the Boutique Hotel Cala Mia, an eco- island resort. Here without effort you will experience dolphins, sea turtles, monkeys, beautiful birds and much more. Isla Boca Brava, minutes from the mainland, is part of the Chiriqui Marine National park that includes more than 20 islands.

The eleven, one and two bedroom bungalow suites line the shore and are a stone's throw to the pool, restaurant, beach and spa treatment cabana.  Land activities include hiking through jungle, prairies and beaches during which time you are guaranteed to observe howler-monkeys. Visit our organic farm and watch cheesemaking; Gouda, lovingly made by Dutch owner Max and Fior de Latte, the best mozzarella, made by his Italian wife, Vittoria.  Water activities include deep sea fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, humpback whale watching, (during their migration), exploring mangroves and outer islands. Spa treatments, beaches and the fresh water pool await those who enjoy doing nothing. The Boutique Hotel Cala Mia is eco-luxury at its best, where you don't need keys and shoes are optional.

The staff at Cala Mia can arrange half and full day trips to other islands.  All of our itineraries combine at least 2 of the islands, while the "Grand Tour" includes all 4 of the closer-islands. The Isla Secas are best enjoyed on a full-day trip, where you'll have plenty of time for fishing, snorkeling and exploring the deserted beaches. For scuba divers, Isla Los Landrones, 15 miles from the Cala Mia is an amazing spot where "mountain peaks" rise above the ocean-surface.  This unknown diving site, was recently visited by Sylvia Earl of National Geographic, who said " it is very promising site, big fish are in abundance, we saw giant manta rays and humpback whales..."
One bedroom bungalow suites start at $220 per night in high season, $180 per night in low season. Rates include breakfast but not the10% local tax.
